Application of accelerated fixed-point algorithms to hydrodynamic well-fracture coupling

Abstract The coupled simulations of dynamic interactions between the well, hydraulic fractures and reservoir have significant importance in some areas petroleum engineering. Several approaches to problem coupling numerical models these parts full system been developed industry past years. One possible allowing formulation as a fixed-point is studied present work. Accelerated Anderson’s Aitken’s algorithms are applied problem. compared with traditional Picard iterations on representative set test cases including ones remarkably problematic for coupling. Relative performance measured, robustness tested. enable (up two orders magnitude) boost convergent solutions where simple fail. Based analysis, we provide recommendations choice particular algorithm tunable relaxation parameter depending anticipated complexity
